Saltwater Mexico: Ascension Bay
July 2025
The week started with good weather but then became more complicated with windy days and lots of clouds until yesterday, when the good weather returned. We saw many schools of permit, small tarpon scattered in the red waters caused by the sargassum, and plenty of small and medium-sized bonefish. The group of 10 anglers landed two good-sized permit and two other very small permits, many bonefish, some good jack crevalle, several small tarpon, barracuda, and some nice snook, one of them measuring 17/18 pounds. The lodge service was excellent, and the guides were very good. An advantage of this operation is that each boat has an experienced guide and an assistant. In short, the week, despite the weather, was good, and Ascension Bay is undoubtedly a great destination for permit fishing!
